The Food Bank was originally started in 1978, by a small group of volunteers led by Ed Aydon and Les Slater. Operations were formally taken up by Trinity Church some 10 years later, under Pastor Ernie Loreen. There were many volunteers who assisted Ernie and the church during these years, with perhaps the most involved being Henry Rosenthal.

Henry embraced the Food Bank as his passion and dedicated the better part of his week supporting the FB, from driving to and from Bellingham on Tuesdays, packing and hauling crates for the Wednesday food bank at the CC, grinding and bagging coffee, collecting food donations, and sometimes aluminum cans, being the chief cook and bottle washer for the FB, sometimes literally. He could often be seen driving the Food Bank van on his many rounds.

Henry became the first President of the new Board of Directors when the Point Roberts Food Bank became a legal 501C(3) organization in 2013. He retired from the Board in 2022 due to ill health, although he continued to help out as much as he could until his death in November of that year.

The Food Bank continued to run under the governance of the new Board of Directors, led by Ray Smith as President until mid 2024 and Holly Robinson as Acting-President until January 2025. During their tenure the Food Bank acquired property on Teller Road with the intention of building of a food storage warehouse. The permitting process for that initiative continues.
